Women guides leading the way

During our guide training in 2017, we held a session on barriers to women guides in our partner communities. Ever since then we have continued to work with and encourage those women who were keen to guide. This year, almost all of our hikes so far have had at least one female guide, and on several occasions the whole hiking guide team have been women.

This was the case on our last Cross Highland Hike, where Titilia, Sulu and Selita, led our guests on the hike from Nubutautau down to Navala.

As their confidence as guides grows, it’s great to see them sharing more and more of their local knowledge with guests, making for an ever richer and unique travelling experience. These women are now very much leading the way!
