After 23 years away from Fiji, having left at just 4 years old, coming back felt like finding a piece of myself I didn’t realise I was missing. London’s hustle and endless noise left me feeling disconnected from my roots. Now, being here with my family and going on a Talanoa Treks adventure felt like a true homecoming. Hiking the breathtaking interior of Viti Levu and staying in the villages for the first time brought a sense of belonging I hadn’t felt in ages. Sharing stories over kava and experiencing the warmth of village life made me feel truly at home. It was an experience that left me feeling grateful, grounded, and full of love for where I come from. I loved every single moment.
I was there to help create content for their social media pages, and interviewing the local guides was a special highlight. Hearing their stories up close and personal added so much depth to the experience. I’ve hiked a lot in the UK and in other countries like Indonesia and Portugal, but wow, Fiji felt different – special. Even as someone from Fiji, I didn’t know you could hike in Viti Levu with a company that truly knows what they’re doing. My family here in Fiji were just as surprised! I hope more locals get the chance to experience the beauty and adventure of hiking in the heart of Viti Levu.
