Sustainability was a watch-word at this year’s Fiji Tourism Expo, with the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism announcing that Tourism Fiji will lead the way to achieve a sustainability-conscious tourism industry to protect the pristine natural environment of Fiji.
Talanoa Treks attended the Fiji Tourism Expo last week as a first time exhibitor, and was privileged to take part in a panel discussion and press conference on the issue of environmental sustainability with the Minister, the wonderful Nukubati Island Resort (pioneers of sustainability in Fiji) and the Mamanuca Environmental Society.
As a company founded on the beauty of Fiji’s tropical rainforests, pristine rivers, and dramatic peaks, as well as, its rich cultural heritage, we wholeheartedly support this push.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with the wider industry. Trying to capture the flavour of our treks within the confines of a conference booth was a challenge, but with help from The Greenhouse Studio, Cove Furnishings and Aviva Farm we managed to conjure a few surprised looks from delegates intrigued to know where a cosy fireplace fits in to Fiji’s tourism scene.
At 800m, even in tropical Fiji it can get cold, and cosying around the fire at Stonebowl Lodge after a walk up Mt Tomaniivi, or before heading off on our Cross Highland Hike is a pleasure all of itself.
